Midway through Lent I am finding myself fed by our theme of "Guide My Feet." In many and quite differing ways the image has been speaking to folks and I am glad.
At the critical juncture we are at with our congregational visioning process I realize how we must allow the feet of our church to be guided as well. As we have engaged the task of visioning our identity as a community of faith I have come to trust that the guiding Spirit has been with us. Surely we have come up with good ideas 'just on our own' but there is a certain elusive, quiet power that is sneaking around too. And I am glad.
Again and again I want to remind all of us what the congregation affirmed last summer:
The overall vision states that we more deeply embody being a congregation that is able to experience transformative change both individually and together. That, as a community of faith we, in short, ‘go deeper.’
To implement this process we affirmed the need for:
1) Increased resources for Spiritual Formation
2) Developing practices to more fully welcome young people in our midst
3) Becoming in significant ways a ‘green’ congregation
4) Growth in service based ministries
5) Intentional fostering of intentional relationships
6) To facilitate this by initiating a Capital and Mission Campaign
We will take formal action on the particulars that are presently being put together by three working groups at our spring Congregational Meeting coming up in a few months. As we move forward we will do well to continue to seek guidance for our feet, for our future, for our ministry with each other and on behalf of our God.
Blessings to you all as we walk toward Jerusalem,
Peter
